Tesco, a company that operates a variety of retail stores throughout the United Kingdom, recently announced plans to deploy Wi-Fi access points throughout all of its Tesco Extra stores in the country, Marketing magazine recently reported. Deploying Wi-Fi in retail and other consumer-centric settings is quickly becoming a primary marketing tool for many companies. Public wireless networks also pay off for mobile business users, as it gives them the ability to access the internet from a variety of locations. In the case of Tesco, the company is offering unlimited WLAN access to all of its official members. In these instances, the network will be password protected, with each individual's member number acting as the login. Non-members will be able to use the infrastructure for up to 15 minutes per 24-hour period. The move comes as part of a large-scale strategy to employ innovative technologies throughout its operations. Using state-of-the-art technologies, including wireless network infrastructure, is rapidly becoming a key marketing strategy for businesses, Business2Community reported. The technology's role as a key marketing enabler is further evidence of its widespread popularity in a variety of sectors. |
