Reaffirms AirTight’s Ownership of WIPS Intellectual Property

Mountain View, CA - November 8, 2006 - AirTight® Networks, the leading provider of wireless intrusion prevention solutions, today announced the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has allowed a second patent to AirTight, that strengthens AirTight’s intellectual property leadership position. The second AirTight patent is for the application No. 11/281,133, which is a continuation of AirTight’s first patent No. 7,002,943. This second patent refines and expands several of the techniques described in the first patent – to extend the scope of AirTight’s WIPS intellectual property.

“AirTight’s second patent builds on the same four fundamental building blocks of an effective WIPS,” said Hemant Chaskar, PhD, director of technology at AirTight Networks. “These 4 capabilities were all claimed and therefore protected as part of AirTight’s first patent:

predictive planning for WLAN security coverage
detecting and correctly classifying wireless threats – to catch all threats, while minimizing false alarms
preventing (multiple, simultaneous) wireless threats – while continuing to scan for new ones
accurately locating the wireless threats on a floor map – so they can be removed.

This action by the USPTO strengthens and enhances our IP portfolio and reinforces our technology leadership position. With these two patents, AirTight has patented the most important technologies essential for building an effective wireless intrusion prevention system.”

“Moreover, even though one of our competitors has started the process of trying to get the USPTO to rule ‘interference’ on our first patent, we have not yet had a chance to present our position” said Pravin Bhagwat, PhD, chief technology officer of AirTight Networks. “That whole process is just beginning. We’re looking forward to presenting our arguments on their interference claims and we are confident we will prevail. The USPTO allowed this second patent, extending the scope of our first patent, taking into account AirTight’s first patent and our competitor’s interference claims. The USPTO’s allowance of this second patent is a strong affirmation of AirTight’s intellectual property position.”

“AirTight is continuing to pursue a leadership strategy in the intellectual property and patent arena,” said David King, chairman and CEO of AirTight Networks. “The first patent issued by the USPTO in the wireless intrusion prevention area – was to AirTight, and this additional patent expands the scope and reinforces the strength of the first patent. While several of our competitors are playing catch up both on the IP front as well as on product functionality, AirTight is continuing to invest in inventing, developing, marketing, and supporting the best WIPS solution in the market. Our competition is becoming increasingly desperate about AirTight’s product leadership and IP portfolio, so they are resorting to diversionary tactics that they can use to distract the press and the public.”

AirTight Networks’ family of products includes SpectraGuard® Enterprise, SpectraGuard MNC, SpectraGuard Sentry, SpectraGuard Planner, and SpectraGuard SAFE (Security Agent For Endpoints) products. As shown in the February 2006 Tolly Group report, the March 2006 Information Security Magazine review, a May 2006 Gartner MarketScope report, and a May 2006 Tower group report, AirTight’s SpectraGuard Enterprise outperforms its competitors in wireless intrusion prevention functionality.
