Beats all key competitors in comparison of WIPS solutions

Mountain View, CA - March 3, 2006 - AirTight® Networks, the leading provider of wireless perimeter security solutions, today announced that its SpectraGuard® Enterprise was ranked first among four competitors in the March 2006 review of Wireless Intrusion Prevention Systems (WIPS) published in Information Security Magazine.

Information Security did an independent review of these four systems, evaluating them on five key criteria:

  •  ease of installation & configuration,
  •  policy configuration & enforcement,
  •  automatic classification & blocking,
  •  overall security features, and
  •  monitoring, alerting, & reporting.

AirTight Networks’ SpectraGuard Enterprise was the only system to get straight A’s on all 5 criteria. SpectraGuard Enterprise was rated “best tool on the market” in this review. This is the first such review to incorporate several key requirements of a WIPS, including security coverage planning for a site, and the requirement for robust intrusion prevention (as opposed to simple detection). The review can be found at: informationsecurity.techtarget.com/magItem/0,291266,sid42_gci1169207,00.html

AirTight Networks’ SpectraGuard Enterprise has established its industry leadership position by delivering the key elements of an effective wireless intrusion prevention systems (WIPS):

  •  detecting and correctly classifying wireless threats – to catch all threats, while minimizing false alarms
  •  preventing (multiple, simultaneous) wireless threats – while continuing to scan for new ones
  •  accurately locating the wireless threats on a floor map – so they can be removed

This award from Information Security Magazine confirms this perspective – from an independent third-party reviewer.

“This review and number one ranking confirm what we’re hearing from customers in the marketplace,” said Dennis Tsu, vice president of marketing at AirTight Networks. “Just as we saw in the wired security market, the wireless security market is in the middle of the migration from wireless intrusion detection to wireless intrusion prevention – for many of the same reasons enterprises moved this way on the wire.
The requirement for a true WIPS solution – plays to AirTight Networks’ strength as the recent Tolly Group report demonstrates. And just last week, we received a US patent on the fundamental technologies involved in building and delivering a WIPS. The market, as demonstrated by this review and ranking, is acknowledging AirTight’s leadership.”

AirTight Networks’ family of products include SpectraGuard® Enterprise, SpectraGuard Sentry, SpectraGuard Planner, and SpectraGuard SAFE (Security Agent For Endpoints) products. As shown in the recently released Tolly Group report, AirTight’s SpectraGuard Enterprise outperforms its competitors in wireless intrusion prevention functionality.
