AirTight Product Called a Wireless Security Solution That's Easy to Deploy, Elegantly Simple and Frighteningly Effective

Mountain View, CA - February 13, 2008
- AirTight® Networks, the industry standard for wireless intrusion prevention systems (WIPS), today announced that PC Pro Magazine has awarded its  SpectraGuard® Enterprise product five stars and a “recommended” rating. The publication said, “AirTight delivers a wireless security solution that’s easy to deploy, elegantly simple and frighteningly effective.” The entire review can be found at:  http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/164814.

The editors remarked, "SpectraGuard Enterprise is also dramatically different from most wireless security solutions because it does not take an all-or-nothing approach to rogue APs and clients. Most consider any AP they don't recognize as a rogue and, if you have containment activated, will attack it. Very real problems can arise where businesses are close to other companies with their own wireless networks making containment risky."

"We are pleased that PC Pro took the time to evaluate our product in a comprehensive and thoughtful manner and that the results reinforce the unique strengths and capabilities of SpectraGuard, namely accurate on/off wire classification, security exposure analysis and accurate location tracking and effective over-the-air threat blocking," said David King, chairman and CEO of AirTight."

AirTight Networks' SpectraGuard Enterprise has established its industry leadership position by delivering the key elements of an effective wireless intrusion prevention system (WIPS):

  • detecting and correctly classifying wireless threats - to catch all threats, while minimizing false alarms
  • preventing (multiple, simultaneous) wireless threats - while continuing to scan for new ones
  • accurately locating the wireless threats on a floor map - so they can be removed.

A recent ruling by the USPTO in an interference action brought by AirTight competitor, AirDefense, for a seminal patent granted to AirTight in 2006 re-affirmed AirTight's leadership position as the first company to invent, deliver and patent a truly effective WIPS solution. The AirTight patent covers technologies useful for implementing these functionalities, which are fundamental to wireless intrusion prevention.

In testing by the Tolly Group, AirTight’s SpectraGuard Enterprise outperformed its competitors by a large margin in wireless intrusion prevention functionality and was also awarded a positive rating in the only ‘Marketscope for Wireless LAN Intrusion Prevention Systems’ published by Gartner to date.
