Certification Achieved in June 2007 Is Mandated for Wireless LAN Equipment at Government Agencies

San Francisco, CA - April 7, 2008 -
AirTight® Networks, the global leader for wireless vulnerability management and wireless intrusion prevention products and services, today accepted the formal presentation of Common Criteria Certification for two of its products — SpectraGuard® Enterprise, the enterprise scale WIPS solution, and SpectraGuard SAFE, which protects laptop users from rapidly proliferating wireless attacks such as Evil Twin, wireless phishing, ad hoc networking and more. Both products achieved Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level 2 certification from the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) Common Criteria Evaluation and Validation Scheme (CCEVS) in June of 2007. (http://www.niap-ccevs.org/cc-scheme/vpl/) SpectraGuard SAFE is the first end point wireless security product to achieve this certification.

Common Criteria is an internationally standardized framework for matching end-user security requirements with vendor product specifications. For the U.S., the National Security Telecommunications and Information Systems Security Policy No. 11 mandates that agencies reporting to the executive branch use Common Criteria-evaluated equipment and software for networks carrying sensitive information.

NIAP Common Criteria certification is mandated for wireless LAN equipment installed at government agencies With this certification, AirTight becomes the premier vendor providing a total wireless intrusion prevention system (WIPS) that meets U.S. government requirements as well as those of 22 other countries that have adopted and recognize the Common Criteria as the official third-party evaluation criteria for IT security procedures.

AirTight customers are assured that its industry leading solutions have been tested under the most stringent U.S Common Criteria scheme which meet the level of security required by the U.S. Government. AirTight offers the most complete wireless policy management and enforcement solutions to both its U.S. government customers and those global enterprises which must meet the security criteria of their customers and foreign government agencies who have adopted this standard.

AirTight currently has several large federal deployments including USAID, which has consistently received a grade of A+ on the Federal Computer Security Report Card for the past three years, the U.S. Army, the US Postal Service and other federal facilities and now joins the list of prestigious global companies represented on the NIAP/Validated Products List.

The AirTight Networks’ WIPS solutions certified through this process cover all aspects of wireless IPS protection to meet federal government requirements – large site or headquarters facilities, branch or field office facilities, and laptops used in the field and not in a federally protected facility.

About Common Criteria
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the National Security Agency (NSA) established the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) to evaluate IT product conformance to the Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation, an international standard. The program, officially known as the NIAP Common Criteria Evaluation and Validation Scheme (CCEVS) is a partnership between the public and private sectors to help organizations select commercial off-the-shelf information technology (IT) products that meet their security requirements and to help manufacturers of those products gain acceptance in the global marketplace. Twenty-two countries now recognize the Common Criteria as the official third-party evaluation criteria for IT security procedures.
