Helps Merchants and Financial Institutions Avoid Wireless Security Risks, Prevent Consumer Identity Theft

Mountain View, CA - July 25, 2007
- AirTight® Networks, the leading provider of wireless intrusion prevention systems (WIPS), today announced that it has joined the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Security Standards Council, an independent industry standards body providing management of the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (DSS) on a global basis.

The PCI DSS is a multifaceted security standard that includes requirements for security management, policies, procedures, network architecture, software design and other critical protective measures. This comprehensive Standard is intended to help organizations proactively protect customer account data. The most recent version of the PCI DSS - version 1.1 - added specific security requirements to protect networks and payment card data from wireless threats and risks.

AirTight joins the PCI Security Standards Council to help evolve and enhance the PCI DSS ensuring that the Standard includes any new or modified requirements specifically for wireless security necessary to mitigate emerging payment security risks, while continuing to foster wide-scale adoption.

"In order for wireless to gain wide-spread adoption in the enterprise, it is necessary to mitigate emerging payment security risks. Unfortunately there have been several large retailers whose networks have been breached via wireless connections," said Dennis Tsu, vice president of marketing for AirTight Networks. "In one instance, the breach led to the loss of data on over 45 million payment cards. While products (such as our SpectraGuard Enterprise) exist to mitigate wireless threats to both the wired and wireless network, we’re looking forward to providing valuable input to ensure the PCI DSS addresses this issue."

AirTight offers a complete wireless intrusion prevention system to cover retail networks to help detect, classify, prevent and locate wireless threats. The products can be purchased as a traditional WIPS security system or as a managed wireless security service. AirTight also offers a wireless planning service to help retailers who are planning to deploy wireless in their stores, warehouses, distribution centers, or offices - to ensure adequate coverage and security.
