AirTight Rated “Strong Positive” in Wireless LAN IPS Marketscope Report by Leading Industry Analyst Firm"Strong Positive" is the Highest Possible Rating Mountain View, CA, August 13, 2012 - AirTight Networks, the premier provider of wireless intrusion prevention (WIPS) and secure Wi-Fi access products and services announced today that Gartner has rated AirTight "Strong Positive" in its 2012 Marketscope for Wireless LAN Intrusion Prevention Systems. A "Strong Positive" is the highest rating possible in a Gartner Marketscope. Vendors were evaluated on five criteria - customer experience, offering (product) strategy, overall viability (business unit, financial strategy, organization), marketing execution, product/service. A complimentary copy of the full report is available from AirTight. The Marketscope report notes that, "Just like wired networks, wireless networks need to be monitored to both proactively detect vulnerabilities to accelerate mitigation and to quickly detect security incidents to support rapid incident response." The Marketscope also comments that, "WLAN exploits can be targeted to cause significant location-specific security incidents that can be difficult and expensive to remediate," and that, "Further advances in other wireless technologies and general concerns about the use of smartphones have carried the scope of WLAN IPS beyond Wi-Fi, and vendors in this market are expanding into Bluetooth, mobile phones, wireless cameras, active RFID, cordless phones and other non-Wi-Fi services." It says that, "Enterprises need WLAN IPS tools to ensure that vulnerability management and intrusion prevention processes are extended to cover wireless extensions to wired networks." "Two trends are becoming quite evident. As the BYOD tide rises, organizations will continue to struggle to embrace Wi-Fi access and various smartphones and tablets while tackling the security challenges of these unmanaged devices. Second, the rapid growth of Wi-Fi in remote offices of the distributed enterprise need the same controls and visibility as the corporate campus," said David King, Chairman and CEO of AirTight. "AirTight has addressed this challenge by providing enterprises with both on-premise and cloud WIPS and secure Wi-Fi access solutions to automatically detect and classify all wireless devices on the network in order to apply appropriate security policies to prevent any unauthorized device access to the network regardless of authentication credentials. We are proud to have the value of our services in the WIPS market recognized by this 'Strong Positive' rating in the current Gartner Marketscope." The report also notes, "Companies must remember that compliance is not the end of vulnerabilities, and does not equate to security. We predict that most successful WLAN attacks will exploit misconfigured access points and weakly defended consumer grade end-user devices." About AirTight's Products Both its onsite WIPS product, SpectraGuard® Enterprise and AirTight Cloud ServicesTM are low touch solutions providing easy deployment, automated scanning and reporting and Secure Wi-Fi Access with little human intervention.
